Ballet of York County is a 501.c3 nonprofit, tax-exempt organization formed in 2020 to continue a tradition of artistic excellence in community arts education after York County Ballet was forced to close due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Classical ballet education and performance have been a part of the fabric of York County for more than four decades. Thousands of dancers have trained and performed for sold out audiences in our very own community since 1978.

Ballet of York County is a ballet school as well as a performing company. Classes began in the Fall of 2020, first outdoors in a field at the Anne Springs Close Greenway and then at the Rock Hill First ARP Church gymnasium. Our new home studio was established in late 2021.

With the financial assistance provided through the generosity of donors and sponsors, Ballet of York County has been able to not only begin, but grow during these difficult economic times. Performance revenue accounts for very little of Ballet of York County’s operating budget. BYC must raise the remaining portions of its yearly expenses from tuition, fundraising and contributions.

Your donations enable us to provide opportunities for our community to foster a connection to the arts, through educational dance instruction (ballet classes, modern dance classes, tap classes, master classes and summer intensives/camps) as well as live arts performances, such as The Nutcracker and original spring productions. For our 2022-23 season we are able to offer a free performance for local Title I school students, many of whom may not otherwise have the opportunity to see a ballet or live theatrical performance. We firmly believe that community caring is an important element of arts education. Even with rising costs, we are determined to make performing arts accessible and affordable for our community.
